So fungi are animals’ closest cousins? I didn’t know that.
They’re almost our closest cousins; the chart fails to note that there are a lot more protozoa scattered throughout the eukaryota. Some of them are more closely related to animals than animals are to fungi. But of the major eukaryote clades, fungi are certainly the closest to animals.
