I'm an incorrigibly geeky transboy with a love for neuropsychopharmacology, cacti (or plants and botany in general), weird music, spiders (and other cute animals), experimental film, might and magic, daggerfall, pokemon, and math (especially when symmetries are involved).
Okay so, one night I had this dream, cannot for the life of me remember what it was about, but I was in thie old abandoned theater or something. I just remember sitting in the front seats on the first row on the second level near the door and the sunshine coming out of the windows on my life…
I had a dream about a building a few years ago that stuck with me so strongly that I tried to work it into a drawing (which I never finished). But then I randomly came across a pic of the Farwell Building in Detroit a while back:
…and had a *serious* WTF/deja-vu moment at how much it looked like the building in my dream. Mainly the staircases and the railing that goes around the entire room, with the room itself being multiple stories tall. I’ve since had other dreams with very similar architectural features in them. They’re always really eerie and surreal. And I’ve never been to the Farwell Building (or Detroit, for that matter).
That said, I’ve always been sort of fascinated by buildings, and as a child used to be constantly on the lookout for “complicated houses”. I watched a lot of movies and read a lot of books that featured children exploring strange old mansions / castles, so my guess is that some of that imagery must have just really stuck with me. I would love to try out the whole “urban exploration” thing but given my rather underpowered sense of danger that probably wouldn’t be the best idea (as in, I could see myself being all OOH I NEED A PICTURE OF THAT COOL THING and ending up stepping through a rotting floorboard or something.)
Most of my dreams are actually about buildings. Often intricate buildings that I could never design while awake. I also assume I’ve subconsciously gotten good at integrating a lot of architectural information into dreams. I often remember the designs even after waking and wish I had the drawing skills to show people what they looked like. I’ve tried through Google Sketchup but for some reason it takes me forever to do even one smallish building. I do also have a big thing for buildings when awake though.
Oh man I’m not the only one who dreams about buildings? Basically all my dreams are about buildings, except for the ones that are about video games. Unfortunately I can rarely remember the layout enough to recreate it while awake, or more likely I just didn’t explore the building enough in the dream to get the whole layout. I’ve done roof and tunnel exploration before but most of my dreams are really about more ‘mundane’ spaces; hotels, libraries, dormitories, et cetera.
A lot of my dreams are also about exploration stuffs, the dreams that I have that carry the greatest number of feelings...
It’s all fucking crazy, isn’t it? I’m kinda happy I’m not the only one shitting my pants over deja vu’s XD it kinda...
